This story would have a feel of some of the old ones... it's called Keturah and Lord Death, and it's by Martine Leavitt... the title heroine tells Death a story and leaves him hanging so she can have enough time to experience what she wanted to experience before dying, namely finding her true love, but she ends up wanting to do even more, including saving her village from a plague, prettying the place up for a fair, and helping her two best friends be with those they love most...

and an old Medieval Italian story.

I read that book. Not my fav but it was good.

And If its what Im thinking I always wanted to read One thousand and One nights. And I laughed so hard at the last panel XD.

One thousand and one nights is totally surreal, you should check out the Italian Decameron as well. The stories are amazing!
